Invest in Your Spiritual Capacity

Yes, the brain is an organ, but treat it like a muscle this week!  When you memorize a verse, speech or something similar, you’re giving the brain more power to do other things well.  Committing something to memory over several days is a great exercise towards innovation.  Pick a phrase or passage you'd like to incorporate into your communication as a leader.

Memorization has also been linked to better mental health.  Something to do with neuronal plasticity in the brain.  Some Dutch researchers have found that when you focus and develop your memory through memorization tasks, you free up the mind and have more room to be creative.

According to the National Institute on Health and Aging, if you make this a lifelong habit, you will be able to maintain higher cognitive functioning and everyday skills, even five years after going through short stints of memory training.  Practicing memorization allows seniors to delay typical cognitive decline by seven to 14 years.

No matter where you are in your spiritual journey, fine tuning your spiritual connectors will help you create the balance and perspective needed for sustaining a positive mental attitude.  And according to the experts noted above, you’ll live longer!!

What Are Your Expectations?

The word for the week is "Expectations." Expect the best in all you do this week.   I know, It is hard work. Working at a high level each and every day can be exhausting, especially when no one seems to notice.   Or if they do notice, they don’t seem to care.   Consider what you can achieve if each day for one week, you pushed yourself to maintain a high level of excellence in everything you do.   What would that feel like?   What if you start small?   What if you start big? ·          When driving, come to a complete stop at every stop sign ·          Cross the street within the cross walk, no shortcuts--for anything. ·          No multitasking.   Give 100% of yourself to every single task, big or small. ·          Expect that every encounter with a human will make you smile. ...

Communicate for Outcomes!

The word for the week is "Communication” Communication is central to all aspects of life. It’s a critical skill for maintaining your personal as well as professional relationships. ·          Builds trust ·          Establishes credibility ·          Lays the foundation for great leadership Be aware of the nonverbal cues you receive when speaking your mind.   Silence does not automatically mean agreement. When communicating, ask don’t tell .   Being asked lights up “positive visioning areas” in the brain, associated with greater cognitive and perceptual openness.   Being told can activate “negative emotional attractor” areas of the brain, causing defensiveness. I communicate clearly and listen for clarity and understanding.

Hello?-- Call Me, Please?

The phrase for the week is "Pick Up The Phone." When in doubt about tone or intent, pick up the phone and talk! Let’s face it, something you think is pretty funny, may be lost on someone else.   It bears repeating here that people from different cultures and backgrounds speak and write differently.   You may convince yourself that it’s quicker to send a request or reply by email or text, but if you now have a thread of 10 or more responses, something else is not getting done. Practice my 2-by-2 rule for one week and measure the impact. If you’ve sent two emails or texts and the other person has sent two on the same subject, pick up the phone and stop the madness! I pick up the phone when I realize I’m having a conversation through text or email. Share your progress: https://www.facebook.com/AStepAheadPR.Coaching
